USPS January 19, 2025 Price Change

The first USPS price change of 2025 is coming up quickly. The USPS Board of Governors (BOG) have proposed new postage prices. Based on the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) approval, USPS shippers can expect to see price changes for their domestic parcels starting Sunday, January 19. However, Market Dominant services such as First-Class Mail®, Media Mail®, and Library Mail®, will maintain their current rates.
While the final changes may be different from the initial proposal, we want to keep our shippers informed about and prepared for what changes could happen in just a week.

USPS’ Time-Limited Price Change comes to an end
On January 19, 2025, USPS’ 2024 Time-Limited Price Change will come to an end. This price change was a seasonal adjustment to support the elevated cost of managing and shipping during peak season. The following mail classes were affected:
- Priority Mail Express®
- Priority Mail®
- USPS Ground Advantage®
Please note the proposed January 19, 2025 rate changes will be relative to the mail classes' regular price and not the seasonal time-limited price.
U.S. domestic shipping rate changes in 2025
Several U.S. domestic services will see rate changes. On average you can expect to see the following increases:
- Priority Mail Express®: 3.2% increase in Retail rates.
- Priority Mail®: 3.2% increase in Retail rates.
- USPS Ground Advantage®: 3.9% increase in Retail rates.
Domestic Extra Services
USPS will make adjustments to their Extra Services.
- Price reduction for both basic and person-specific Adult Signature service
- New “Live Animal and Perishable Handling Fee”
Live Animal and Perishable Handling Fee
USPS has proposed a new fee targeted at sensitive deliveries involving live animals and/or perishable goods.

At the time of this blog post, USPS has yet to confirm the price change details. The finalized rates may be less than the proposed above. On January 19, 2025, EasyPost’s USPS Rate Chart page will be updated with the new rates.
